Bananas are often viewed as a high energy food, great for a quick snack before exercise but they are also a good mood boosting food. This is because bananas are a good source of the amino acid tryptophan which the body can convert to serotonin, a “feel good” neurotransmitter.
If you are not a banana eater here a few ways to sneak them into your diet – add to smoothies, freeze ripe bananas and puree in food processor with frozen berries to make an ice cream (you’ll be surprised – it really does work).
Spinach in a fairly humble superfood. Packed with nutrients it is affordable and can be easily grown in a garden or patio pot. Spinach is a mood boosting food because of it contains significant amounts of magnesium and folate. Both are used in creating “fell good” neurotransmitters like serotonin.
Ways to include spinach – raw in a smoothie, cooked and mixed into burgers, with or without lettuce in salads, pureed and added to soups….
6. PROBIOTIC YOGHURT
Probiotic yoghurt boosts mood in a way that may surprise you. It is well known probiotic yoghurt builds healthy bacteria in the gut. What is only just emerging is that gut bacteria can alter brain function leading to improved mood. No-one is sure how this works feet but in the meantime including probiotic yoghurt everyday is a good thing.
